What are Bleeds? Bleeds extend colors and elements past the edge of your cover or page so that they can be printed and trimmed down to size with no unwanted white margin around the edges.
To ensure that your yearbook prints correctly it is important to pay attention to the edges of your cover and pages. You have the ability to move content beyond the edge of a page which allows content to "bleed" off the page.
Margins on the pages must first be turned off to be able to move content off the page. (The cover does not have margins.) When the margins are turned back on the content will remain off the page but if it is moved, it will again be blocked by the margins. Here is how to modify margins on pages.
Modify Individual Page Margins
Bleed on the Cover
1. In Edit Yearbook, select the cover to edit.
2. You will see Cover Tip #1: Extend your artwork all the way into the bleed.
3. If you are only using a Softcover or Hardcover, you will see the cover tip to get more info in the Help Center.
If you are using both covers, Softcover and Hardcover, you will see this cover tip to use the copy to link.
* All editors will see these tips when they first go to the cover to edit.
4. By default, bleed is shown on the cover. The bleed area is shown with diagonal blue lines. Select Cover Tips to be able to see the tips at any time.
5. If content on the cover is moved too close to the edges or the spine, you will see the caution borders and this message:
Content that is close to the edge may be slightly trimmed during production.
If you want content to extend off the page or cover the the entire page, make sure the content extends into the bleed.
Anything extending into the bleed area (diagonal blue lines) will not print on the cover. The trim line is the outside line of the caution border.
6. If you do not want the bleed area showing on the cover, select the # and turn off Show Bleed.
Bleed on Pages
Bleed on pages works the same as on the cover.
1. By default, bleed is shown on all pages. The bleed area is shown with diagonal blue lines.
2. If you do not want the bleed area showing on a page, select the # and turn off Show Bleed.
